“SEPARATION OF POWERS AND CONSTITUTIONAL COURT” INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE

The Constitutional Court of Mongolia in cooperation with the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe organized an international conference under the theme of “Separation of powers and Constitutional Court” on 6-7 June, 2019. Representatives of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe, European and Asian Constitutional Courts i.e. delegates of 14 countries in total participated in the conference.

The Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Mongolia Mr. Dorj Odbayar and the President of the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe Mr. Gianni Buquicchio delivered opening remarks. The Conference lasted 2 days and Justices of Constitutional Courts presented and discussed their speeches, as for the keynote speakers, Mr. Gunars Kūtris, Member of the Venice Commission, Former President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Latvia delivered his speech in the session “Legislative power and Constitutional Court”, Mr. Philip Dimitrov, Member of the Venice Commission, Justice of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Bulgaria, former Prime Minister of Bulgaria – in session “Executive power and the Constitutional Court”, Ms. Jasna Omejec, Member of the Venice commission, Professor of Administrative Law, University of Zagreb, former President of the Constitutional Court of the Republic of Croatia – in session “Judicial power and the Constitutional Court”.

The Justices underlined that the Constitutional Courts protect a principle of separation of powers, Constitutional rights of the bodies implementing it, strengthen legal basis of state structure/power and its activity, guarantee state, social, political stability, serve as a guardian of the Constitutionalism of their own countries, protect Constitutional values.
